HS Jazz Band Takes 1st at Jim Coffin Jazz Festival

The Earlham HS Jazz Band, under the direction of Mr. Lee Plummer, received the 1st place trophy at the 2014 Jim Coffin Jazz Festival. The jazz band traveled to Woodward-Granger on Friday, February 28, to compete against five other 1-A schools. The 2nd place trophy went to Lamoni, and 3rd place went to Audubon. 

Congratulations also to Earlham’s Austin Griswold, freshman, on alto saxophone, who received the Class 1-A Outstanding Soloist Award. Also, contratulations to Zach Howarth, Noah Wright, and Michael Woolcott who all received Outstanding Performer Awards. 

Next up for Earlham Jazz is the HS Variety Show on Friday, March 7, followed on Saturday, March 8, with the Hoover Jazz Festival at Hoover HS in Des Moines. The band will perform at 3PM at Hoover. Last will be the 2014 Iowa Jazz Championships on Tuesday, April 8, in Des Moines.
