The Braille Challenge was established 13 years ago to help promote Braille literacy throughout the country and Canada. Lauren is in the Junior Varsity age division which consists of 7th, 8th and 9th graders. The preliminary round took place last weekend. All of those scores are then sent to The Braille Institute in Los Angeles. The tests are scored again and the top 12 scores in each age group advance to the finals in LA in June. In her age group she is tested on Speed and Accuracy, Proofreading, Reading Comprehension and Charts and Graphs. The preliminary tests are 25 minutes and the finals are 50 minutes and all of the materials double as well.
