Speech Students compete at Walnut Hill Classic

posted Mar 3, 2013, 5:32 PM by Michael Wright
Earlham individual speech students traveled to the 37th annual Walnut Hill Classic in Anita on Saturday the 2nd. The four Earlham students, Sarah Smith - Poetry & Lit. Program, Jordan Pohlman - Original Oratory, Rachel Blanchard - After Dinner & Public Address, and Brenna Rice - Radio News, performed in 6 different categories. This competition is a little different than the IHSSA due to the fact that students are competing directly against students from 15 different schools. They must go through two rounds of speaking in the morning and then if their scores are high enough, they move to the final round where they compete for 1st thru 3rd place overall.
This year's team is small but they managed to move 3 of our six entries to the final round where Jordan and Sarah placed 3rd each in Original Oratory and Poetry.
This Saturday, the same four students will perform at the IHSSA State Contest in Nevada.
